It was with great sadness that Bangor Grammarians learned of the death of past pupil John Jason (Jack) Gault on 21 January
2019. Jack, who was born on 4 July 1928, attended the School from 1941/46.
His older brother Frank served as a pilot in the RAF during World War Two and was killed on active service, aged just 20, on 4 April 1941 We were honoured to welcome Jack back to the School in November 2013, when he laid the Bangor Grammarians wreath during the School's traditional Remembrance Service.
Jack had led a full and productive life right up to his final days, living on his own and cooking for himself, and he was still driving until a few
months prior to his death.
He was a keen sportsman during his years at the school, playing cricket for the 1st XI (1945, 1946) and rugby for the Medallion XV
(1942/43) and 1st XV (1944/45, 1945/46) In addition, he was a member of the committee of the Dramatic Society (1946).
Rugby continued to play a major part in Jack's life. He played for Bangor and North and was on enthusiastic supporter of both the Ulster and Ireland teams. Jack was also a keen member of Bangor Rotary Club, being o post president, and attended meetings until the
final weeks of his life.
In his working life, he started in sales with Munster Simms, retiring as joint managing director. Jack was highly respected and spent o
considerable amount of time travelling the world and opening up new markets for the company, including Europe, America, the For
East and Australia.
In the course of his work Jack made many good friends, often arranging to meet customers on a Friday so he could go soiling with
them at the weekend The west coast of Scotland was a particular favourite for sailing and cruising.
During the funeral service at Roselown Crematorium on 25 January, son Patrick quoted from o letter received from long-time friend Bill
Farnham in America: ''I recognised Jack from the outset as a man of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness and, more importantly, as
a friend. He was respected by all he met and I will miss him greatly"
Predeceased by his wife Kaye, he is survived by sons Patrick and Nigel, daughter Susan, sister Mo and a wide family circle, to whom
sincere sympathy is extended
