Obituaries

It is with sincere regret that we record the death of former pupil Lt Col Wilson Wallace RAMC (Consultant Physician), who died on 15 April 2025. He was 84.

Son of the Rev. W. J. McKinstry (Mac) Wallace, minister of First Bangor Presbyterian Church (and also a governor of Bangor Grammar School), Wilson attended the school between 1951 and 1953 (in the process becoming a supportive member of the renowned Class of 1951).

After graduating from Queen's University in 1964 with an MB, Bch, B Obs., Wilson gained his MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians), followed later by his FRCP (Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians), having specialised in Gastroenterology.

His Army appointments included Malta, Hong Kong, Nepal, Brunei, along with postings in the  United Kingdom. He was a Freeman of the City of London, a member of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, also receiving the Order of St. John.

His final posting was as Physician and Surgeon at the Royal Hospital Chelsea where he cared for the Chelsea Pensioners for 20 years.

During the well-attended funeral service at Putney Vale Cemetery and Crematorium in London, his Army Chaplain told mourners that Wilson’s name ‘still resounds in the hills of Nepal’.

He is survived by Denise, his wife of 60 years, their daughter Catherine, and four grandchildren to whom he was devoted. We extend our sympathies to Denise and the family circle.
