Predeceased by his father Francis, he is survived by his wife Allie, son Conor, mother Avril, brothers Gordon and Ian, sister Karen and the wider family circle. The funeral service took place in St George’s Church, Douglas, Isle of Man, where Gary had resided for almost 30 years.

Gary began his education at Bangor Central Primary School before moving to Bangor Grammar School, where he was an exceptional academic, achieving A Grades in every O-Level and A-Level he sat.

He established Boal and Co. in 1995 to meet the actuarial needs of the growing offshore insurance market. In announcing Gary’s death, the company called him an ‘entrepreneur and visionary’ who, over the previous 20 years, had developed the Boal and Co. Group into one of the largest offshore actuarial and pension trustee firms.

Gary was recognised as an expert in the field of offshore pensions, his technical knowledge being considered second to none. He wrote articles for the local and international press on retirement and insurance topics, as well as industry papers.
